課程概述

Outline:
Each lecture will be tailored according to students understanding. Subjects to be covered for this course are as follows:

1) Theoretical review of electromagnetism
2) Introduction to various optical simulation techniques
3) Monte Carlo technique
4) Numerical solutions of Maxwell's equations
5) Application of the Taylor’s expansion
6) Scalar wave equation
7) The finite-difference time-domain technique
8) Pragmatic simulation of optical problems
 

課程目標
The goal of this course is to provide students with the basic knowledge as well as hands-on experience to perform an light scattering simulation. In particular, emphasis will be placed on the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) technique and Monte Carlo technique. Extensive discussion in class will be conducted to ensure thorough understanding of the course material. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

1) Understand the fundamentals of optical simulation techniques
2) Able to conduct light propagation simulation using FDTD and Monte Carlo techniques
